Naturex provides plant extracts to the food and beverage industry to flavor, color or preserve. Described as bringing “a new generation of turmeric to the market”, Naturex’s Turmipure Gold product is the latest addition to the plant-extract brand’s portfolio as it seeks to create functional ingredients for a variety of food and beverages.
Commenting on how “lower doses and excellent solubility offer a perfect solution for the dairy and beverage market”, the company strives to appeal to consumers in the LATAM market by meeting their nutritional needs.
“Our plan is to make TurmiPure GOLD available in LATAM countries, working with local regulatory authorities based on our proprietary safety studies and dossier available (including GRAS),” said Rodrigo Setti, Product Manager of LATAM Functional and Nutritional Ingredients for Naturex.
The company will hone in on the key elements of the turmeric extract that it believes its consumers will seek, namely “the unique suitability for their food and particularly beverage products” and “the added value brought by the enhanced bioavailability of curcuminoids for their new product development”.
Speaking to NutraIngredients-LATAM earlier in January, Naturex revealed that together with Givaudan, the duo will “maintain efforts to offer new ingredients” in LATAM to collaborate with the region’s “wave of changes”. The companies also noted there is a “real opportunity to create new products” for the “growing” LATAM market.
GRAS status approval
Naturex recently announced it had self-affirmed the Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) status of its Turmipure Gold ingredient. According to the self-affirmation, the product is deemed safe for formulation in a vast array of US food and beverage applications for turmeric extract standardized in curcumin. In beverages and beverage doses, Naturex states a 300 mg dose of Turmipure Gold can be placed in a single functional 2 oz shot drink.
Naturex aims to focus on the importance of bioavailability among natural ingredient purchasers. Due to the product’s increased bioavailability, the single 300 mg portion provides the same amount of curcuminoids, natural polyphenol compounds derived from turmeric, to the blood as 1,922 mg of standard turmeric (containing 95% curcuminoids), Naturex revealed.
